Four men were sentenced in New York today to sixty s years a piece in prison. And those are long terms. They are getting the heavy dose for a recent sensational kidnapping case. Charles M. Rosenthal, a New Yorker, was kidnapped and held for two weeks. I mean the talks between Premier Laval of France and President Hoover. Nothing definite has been given out, except that all questions of international importance are being frankly discussed. They come under three headings: disarmament, reparations and war debts, and international co-operation to restore pro sper 11y. One I ine of comment is that the Premier and the President are agreed that something should be done in all three matters, but that they are not quite in harmony on the subject of HOW. They * • are saying, "Yes, we know what should be done! but how are we going to do it?" William Phillip Sims, the foreign editor of the Scr ipps-Howard newspapers, gives the opinion that on disarmament, for instance, both France and the United States are eager for a cut in the military establishments of the nations. And so the Fanwood branch of the Tall Story Club was promptly formed. Let me give you an extract from the minutes of the first meeting. The United Press describes them as hungry, thirsty, and badly bitten by swarms of mosquitos. They say they were landed off a boat on Tuesday night. They had paid from 200 to 400 dollars each to be put ashore en the United States. puxb They were merely on the deserted island, and left there. But since the World War it has been under a French mandate, and the inhabitants have been given two years to register as French citizens.
