The Chicago Her al d-Exain i ner prints
a copyrighted articled today in which it
declares that the railroads and the
unions are about to come to an agreement
on the subject of a wage cut. The
Hera Id-Examiner asserts it has word that
the union representatives are going to
accept a 10 per cent reduction of wages,
and that the acceptance will take place
over the week-end. It is a case of
deciding between a 10 per cent voluntary
cut and a 15 per cent wage slash which
the railroads threaten to put into
force unless the voluntary cut is
accepted.
The Associated Press quotes the
Herald-Examiner as saying that the
proposed reduction is to be for only one
year. It will probably go into effect
next week, and is expected to save the
railroads a quarter of a billion dollars.
The raiIroads have refused to
guarantee the number of men they will
employ. They also have refused to agree
to a 6-hour day. But the rai I way

came through about that mysterious and
ferocious creature that inhabits the
State of New Jersey, and is known as the
Jersey Devil. Of recent years the critter
hasn't been so prominent.
Today, however, the United Press
sends along the dispatch which tells us
how a posse is searching a white pine
forest in search of the Mersey Devil.
This time the ferocious monster is
reported from Downington, Pennsylvania.
John McCandless claims he sighted it, and
describes it as having a f cr m resembling
that of a human being, but it cavorted

He tells a strange story,
which is given by the United Press. He

car. He knew one of them. He had met
her at a dance several days before. The
other oirl was a stranger.
He got in and drove off with
them. Then they told him they were going
to kill him. He protested, but they
drove to a deserted section of the
highway, shot him, and then tosseo him
out of the car.
