prosecutor of Mercer County, New Jersey,
where the crime was committed, came
to the support of the Lindbergh
statement. He too asks the kidnapers
to come forward with the child, and
promises that as orosecul^ing attorney
he will abide by the wishes of Colonel
Lindbergh, and will be bound with the
promise the famous aviator has made.

The New York Gun quotes him as
admitting that perhaps the promise may
not be considered ethical, but just the
same, he agrees with Col. Lindbergh
and will do everything in his power to
grant the protection necessary to insure
the return of the baby.

little more than a wild maze of rumors.

Well, the fighting was supposed
to be over yesterday, when both armies
were ordered not to attack each other.
But just the same, there was shhoting
and skirmishing in various parts of
Shanghai.
Late this afternoon the International
Settlement was startled by an outbreak
of gun fire, which sounded as if it
were not far a way.
In the last reports the
foreigners in the Settlement hadn't been
able to find out the cause of the trouble.
Along the line where the two
armies are facing each other^ there was
severe fighting at various places. The
orders not

start any trouble don't
seem to have been obeyed very successfully.
