There has been a rood deal of talk as to the chanee of Lieutenant Massie and the three other defendants getting a pardon. Because Hawaii is a territory of t ne United States some people seem to think this pardon would have to come from President Hoover. But a dispatch from the New York Sun's Washington Bureau states emphatically that President Hoover does not have the power to pardon Mrs. Fortescue and Lieutenant Massie and the two sailors. The only person who coylci pardon them would be the Governor of the Hawaiian Islands. bill was introduced into the House of Representatives today proposing a Congressional pardon for all four defendants. The trial is taking place in Butler, Pennsylvania, because the defendants obtained a change of venue, claiming they could not have a fair trial in Pittsburgh. This trial has been twice postponed. On the first occasion eight people, one of them a woman, were indicted by the Grand Jury on accusations of tampering with the jury. It seems that last week the Qominian Government sent the city fathers of Dundas 810,000 to be spent for unemployment relief.
