February 3, 1 9 48 ' NT TR E BLANT -------------- One of my reasons for comin north to Canada w · s t t ke part in _ a cere m ony, in which I ha p pened be interested:-- the opening up of the north side of the highest mountain in Eastern Canada, and the celebration of t . e tenth anniversary oft e coming of a youn g man from testates to this rather remote region high up in the Laure .tian Mountains. to Exactly ten years ago Joe Ryan, one of th~ numerous nephews of the legendary Thomas Fortune Ryan, was in these parts, traveling through the wildernes1 with Indian guides. We all met at Gray Rocks, long f mous as a rendezvous for sportsmen. In the dist . Jnoe we could see Mont Tremblant, that highest mountain; but, w et there through the deep snow - not so easJ. However, one d yin Tom Wheeler's small plane we flew round the mount a in and then 1 n d ed on lake ~ t th e foot of it. Through sno u o o u r w a i s t1 we mad e our way u o the ummit. It as a bri ht sunny day.
