Hundreds of articles of merchandise now sell as cheaply
as we used to buy them before 1914. The Post quotes one department
store manager as saying:-
"There never was a time, in our day, when goods were so
cheap, and also so good. Even babies are cheaper,*' declared the
Post. "Maternity hospitals and baby specialists have brought
their fees quite near the 1914 scale. So near that the average
young couple can call their baby their own after half a dozen
instalment payments.”

The Chinese yellow dragon is changing
like a chameleon to the Red of Soviet
Russia, So we learn from an enlightening
article in t he c u r r e n t issue of the
Literary Digest. A contributor to an
influential monthly published in Moscow
is quoted as reporting that toward the
spring of this year 200 out of 773 ol
districts of Central and Southern China
were under the control of the Soviet
government of China.
The population of these 200
districts is estimated at no less than
60 million people. This writer adds that
t he Chinese Red army n ow n u m be r s around
150,000. It seerns to be so well
organized that it was able successfully
to fight off the recent campaign under
taken by the Nanking generals against
the Chinese Soviet areas^ The third
campaign of its kind, incidentally.

reveal one humorous episode, says the

fled from their home in Changchow. But
the cook remained behind on the job.

door, the cook opened it, let them in
and treated them to a feast of American

house unlooted. They even made her a

guard of police to keep order, but in
spite of this when the General wearing
his imperial war. dec orations, took the
chair, the Communists raised a yell of
Down, Down. The General declined to
make a speech, which aroused still more
jeering from the Communists. Noise from
the galleries contributed to the row.

session, reports Knickerbocker. Prussia
is the largest German state. In fact,
it amounts to two-thirds of the whole-
