There's no official information about what kind of
missile was fired at Cape Canaveral, Florida, this afternoon.
The
Army
merely states - that a missile was fired •
.
The testing
of long range rockets continuing.
Rumors, this afternoon, were that it was a Titan,
an
intercontinental ballistic missile. But unofficial word in
Washington ls - that it was a Jupiter which is - of inter-
mediate range, fifteen hundred miles. However, there's a
special type of Jupiter - said to have
a
range
of three
thouaa.~d miles. One of these - reported to have been teated,
previously.
Today's test - successful,
by
all accounts. The
missile was launched in a drizzling tropical rain, and observers
in the vicinity of the base - watched it soar to an altitude
of a mile and a half. Then disappear - in the direction of the
target range over the ocean, the

prescribed course.

spread - that the rocket was a counterpart of the inter-
continental missile, which Soviet Russia claims to have

tested successfully. But, apparently, our own equivalent
or that is the Atlas which, we hear, will be launched early

D ISARMAMIMT
Soviet Russia today gave a flat rejection - to the
offer of a two year suspension of atomic teats. The Moscow
delegate basing his refusal - on the conditions that would

However, the Soviets are not walking out of the

statement - deploring the Soviet attitude at the

killing a Japanese woman with one. Under American Justice,
the New Jersey lawyer pointed out, a defendant and his lawyers
are informed in advance - of the accusations against him.
Today, Girard's lawyer, Hayashi, explained - that
