He asked for more soldiers, re-enforcements. This — because of a threatening concentration of Italian troops in Bfchldpia near the border of French Somaliland. Other threatening gestures too. The French say the Italians in Ethiopia have been broadcasting to the natives the word that the French at Kjibouti are soon to be d riven into the sea. That*s why the Somaliland Governor-General asked Paris for more soldiers, re-enforcements. And says the Paris dispatch, these have been sent, regiments sailing for Kjibouti. They say the height of the crisis is likely to occur just when Premier Chamberlain visits Pome for his Conference with Mussolini. What the French are afraid of is that the war peril and the Duce,s threatening gestures may persuade Chamberlain to ask France to make concessions. French circiles in Rome are saying France may make some concessions to Italy — non territorial ones. Give up no land, tat yield certain privileges. PILOTS There's a late announcement today of an ambitious program twenty thousand young men are to be taught to fly, twenty thousand, each year. The new program will be supervised by the National Youth Administration, and will be operated through schools and colleges* A beginning will be made during the second semester of the present school year. A dozen schools in various parts of the country will be selected. They*11 be institutions that have already done pioneering work in the training of student aviators. Three hundred pupils in all will be taugnt the art of flying. Private planes and army and navy training craft will be employed. The students will get enough schooling *at the controls to qualify them for regular pilots* licenses". They*11 be trained for civil flying, not military, not combat flying. In the Niagara River, two men were in a boat, when wind and waves overturned them. The New England coast is being lashed by wild gales and snowstorms. At Cape Cod a boat was blown adrift and crashed into a wharf. The Coast Guard saved the men aboard.
