The couple, a man and a woman, had worked in the house of C. Leandro Lightfoot, of Franklin Park, New Jersey. They disappeared shortly after the kidnapping, and their former employers became suspicious. When the servants disappeared a chisel also , together with a quantity of wood that had been used for crating. Later reports indicated that the missing chisel had been found, and therefore was not the one that the kidnapper of the Lindbergh baby had thrown away. The New York Evening Post declares that when the couple was arrested today, the man to Id how he had made a I adder out of the missing crating. He declared that his employer, Mr. Lightfcot, helped him make the ladder, which they had thereupon used in preparing a light in a garage. LI NHB£R£li - 2 Page Mrs. Lightfoot today denied this story. Mrs. Lightfoot declared that her original suspicions were aroused by the fact that on the night of the kidnapping she sent the two servants on an errand, and that when they returned the car was spattered with mud. The errand called for a trip of less than 20 miles, while the speedometer showed an additional 60 miles. The two servants protest that they know nothing about the Lindbergh kidnapping.
