For a long tine there has been growing antagonism about the guardianship of the famous five# wwnrmwm gn one side. Dr, Allan Dafoe, the quintuplet physician, on the other, Oliva Dionne, their father, today Dr. Dafoe Issued a long statement, this in answer to the latest action taken by Dionne. The father of the quintuplets has made an appeal to the Attorney General of Ontario to make a formal investigation of the guardianship of the quintuplets - and the handling of their money. The five little girls have six hundred thousand dollars in Ontario government bonds - all the profit of their fame. Dr. Dafoe, replying, makes a series of charges, in which is featured the phrase - outside forces. He declares that certain outside forces are trying to get control of the quintuplets, but doesn*t explain Just what they are. Outside how? And what forces? He points to the six hundred thousand dollars of quintuplet wealth, and makes the insinuation that before the quins had all that money there was no trouble. How that they've got the cash, there are attacks on the guardianship. He says - DIONNE - 2 if Papa Dionne is anxious about the children, why doesn’t he attend the meetings of the board of guardians? He’s a member of the board but he never takes part in its deliberations. It’s all, the Doctor thinks, a case of outside forces and the six hundred thousand dollars. There’s another angle - are the quins becoming Anglicized? They are French Candians, and are they being reared in the French Candian way? Or are they being influenced in British-Canadian fashion? Dr. Defoe contends that this latest trouble began a couple of months ago when a nurse and a teacher of the quintuplet staff were dismissed - for making trouble, says the Doctor. They are both French Candians, and they went to Papa Dionne and complained to him in their native French-Canadian language. They told him the five little girls were not being brought up In a French atmosphere* Nor in Catholic surroundings. In religion as well as in nationality, they were being - Anglicized. They had been battling for weeks. The Senate passed a tax bill abolishing the much condemned tax on undistributed profits. In its own fcn bill, the lower House kept the undistributed profits tax. The two Houses got together in committee and straightened out things between them and agreed Jcx on a bill for both to pass. It was a hard fight in committee, with the President supporting the lower House in its demand for the retention of the undistributed profits tax. Today they agreed. The levy on undistributed profits is kept, but at a lower figure. The compromise calls for a minimum of sixteen and a half per cent and a maximum of nineteen per cent. The House had wanted sixteen and twenty.
