It was there, in the heart of the lead and zinc mines, that the most furious windstorm raged. It cut a strip three . jndred yards wide and a mile long-, out as clean as though mow& doum by some giant celestial sickle. The light, power and water plants were put out of commission, and the danger of looting became imminent. The mayor of the place called upon the American Legion and Boy troops for help in patrolling the stricken area. Six women were undergoing treatment for cancer.' Suddenly, for no apparent reason, they died. And the symptoms were pronounced remarkably similar to those of lockjaw. The consequence is an ±x official investigation, or rather to be accurate, five of them, by important medical groups, headed by the American Medical Association. The first stage of the investigation showed that the treatment administered to the patients came from Canada, a drug that Canadian law does not permit to be used within the Dominion. But it can be exported. KIDNAP A fresh rumor c£.me to light concerning the kidnapped boy, Peter Levine, of New Rochelle. It came from Ashville, North Carolina. The chief of police reported that two persons had seen the twelve year old lad at Ashville. A woman was accosted by a twelve year old boy barefooted and wearing an old sweater. And, said she, he was remarkably like pictures she had seen of Peter, reproduced in newspapers. On top of that, an automobile salesman of Ashville reported that he had picked up that same boy on the highway and given him a ride into town this morning.
