The Intramural program has a new direc-
tor, Mr. Bill Rice, who will also serve as the
school trainer. All the popular sports will
be back, all having· open enrollment so
anyone can play with a team. Flag football,
·soccer, and more
will
all give plenty of en-
joyment to participants. But a big change
this year
will
be in the Mccann Genter. A
brand new indoor sports program, open to
students, faculty, and staff. is undergoing a
six-:-week trial basis, in which the gym stays
open until midnight. This is a tremendous
asset to Marist would-be athletes, who now
· have no one to blame but themselves for
their inactivity.
So
let's get that spirit of
. competition up, fill those rosters, and get
down to the· McCann Center. There's
nothing wrong with staying in shape, and if
the school is trying to make it more fun for
us, why not take advantage'?

Over 2;000 applicati9ns w
·
ere rec~tved causing Jim Daly,
Director
.
of Admissions,
_
to deny twice the amount of
.
students_ admission this ycai; over last year. Daly says one ..
of the
'
reasons for this increase is, "The story is getting out,
peopl~
:
are
beginning to notice that Marist has become
-
more competitive in the school market.'
'.
,
:•
.
Daly also commented, "it is not uncommon to see that a
student has applied to Vassar or Williams as well as
Marist. We are starting to be compared to schools that
-
were once consid
•
~red out of our league."
.
Another
reason
Daly
.
feels Marist -has been able to
become so competitive.Js his staff. "I have
.
an excellent
staff,"
.
says Daly.
·
••Lastyear we ~ere able to visit 1,000
colleges,"
.
and those recruiting endeavors allow Daly and
hiS:--Admissions staff of Bryan Maloney,
,
Marybeth Carey;
and Cathy Hanley to be selective in the type
.
of students ad-
mitted to Marist.
.
.
.
.
-
.
Daly says "there is
_
a special atmosphere surrounding the
Marist community .
.
Pe~ple here have developed
·
a real af- _
/ection for this institution." The "self selection" that the
-
Admissions Staff is able to execute helps to foster that at-
mosphere: "I.t says something for the
_
college when you are
--
able,to turn away over 400 students,'
.
' says Daly. "This
school has become a desirable
_
place to be
.
·
The more
students in the college, the more valuable one's degree
will
be."
Daly also commented, "the more students enrolled in
the college, the less the tuition increase. per student." The
·
tuition
will
naturally increase due to nat
_
ion wide inflation,
but the more students to
·
share in that increase will result in
less cost per person.
."There are tw
_
o strengths within
.
the college that have
caused the abul)dance of interest in the school;" says Daly,
.
"they are the faculty and the quality of the
'
student:" Daly
expressed that he thinks the
.
-faculty is talented and the
students are friendly and willing to
be
involved.
He
also
added; "the faculty has been very receptive to the larger
·
classroo!ll situations which he feels is an "added plus."
"Permanent housing due to the increase of admissions
will have to be 'secured in the near future,"
·
says Daly.
There is nothing concrete as of now, but there are some
proposals that are "in the works."

The Intramural program has a new direc-
tor, Mr. Bill Rice, who will also serve as the
school trainer. All the popular sports will
be back, all having· open enrollment so
anyone can play with a team. Flag football,
·soccer, and more
will
all give plenty of en-
joyment to participants. But a big change
this year
will
be in the Mccann Genter. A
brand new indoor sports program, open to
students, faculty, and staff. is undergoing a
six-:-week trial basis, in which the gym stays
open until midnight. This is a tremendous
asset to Marist would-be athletes, who now
· have no one to blame but themselves for
their inactivity.
So
let's get that spirit of
. competition up, fill those rosters, and get
down to the· McCann Center. There's
nothing wrong with staying in shape, and if
the school is trying to make it more fun for
us, why not take advantage'?

Over 2;000 applicati9ns w
·
ere rec~tved causing Jim Daly,
Director
.
of Admissions,
_
to deny twice the amount of
.
students_ admission this ycai; over last year. Daly says one ..
of the
'
reasons for this increase is, "The story is getting out,
peopl~
:
are
beginning to notice that Marist has become
-
more competitive in the school market.'
'.
,
:•
.
Daly also commented, "it is not uncommon to see that a
student has applied to Vassar or Williams as well as
Marist. We are starting to be compared to schools that
-
were once consid
•
~red out of our league."
.
Another
reason
Daly
.
feels Marist -has been able to
become so competitive.Js his staff. "I have
.
an excellent
staff,"
.
says Daly.
·
••Lastyear we ~ere able to visit 1,000
colleges,"
.
and those recruiting endeavors allow Daly and
hiS:--Admissions staff of Bryan Maloney,
,
Marybeth Carey;
and Cathy Hanley to be selective in the type
.
of students ad-
mitted to Marist.
.
.
.
.
-
.
Daly says "there is
_
a special atmosphere surrounding the
Marist community .
.
Pe~ple here have developed
·
a real af- _
/ection for this institution." The "self selection" that the
-
Admissions Staff is able to execute helps to foster that at-
mosphere: "I.t says something for the
_
college when you are
--
able,to turn away over 400 students,'
.
' says Daly. "This
school has become a desirable
_
place to be
.
·
The more
students in the college, the more valuable one's degree
will
be."
Daly also commented, "the more students enrolled in
the college, the less the tuition increase. per student." The
·
tuition
will
naturally increase due to nat
_
ion wide inflation,
but the more students to
·
share in that increase will result in
less cost per person.
."There are tw
_
o strengths within
.
the college that have
caused the abul)dance of interest in the school;" says Daly,
.
"they are the faculty and the quality of the
'
student:" Daly
expressed that he thinks the
.
-faculty is talented and the
students are friendly and willing to
be
involved.
He
also
added; "the faculty has been very receptive to the larger
·
classroo!ll situations which he feels is an "added plus."
"Permanent housing due to the increase of admissions
will have to be 'secured in the near future,"
·
says Daly.
There is nothing concrete as of now, but there are some
proposals that are "in the works."
