CUB moves elections
Ainato
against
RC changes
The College Union Board has
rescheduled its elections for the
end of March, so that members
can vote on revisions in the CUB
constitution. The elections are
usually held during the last week
in February.
.
According to Thomas
.
Mc-
Ternan, treasurer, the thirteen
membe
.
rs of the CUB were
scheduled
to
·
meet yesterday, to
vote on constitutional changes
involving a different procedure
for electing committee chairmen,
·
a revised financial policy, and
more clearly defined duties for
officers and chairmen.
John Dowling, president, said
that the title of vice - president
may
·
be changed to "sales-
manager" because of tr9ubles
the CUB has had in the past with
vice - presidents.
.
·
·
If
the
·
revisions
·
are approved
by the CUB, a
.
referendum will be
drawn up and students will vote
on the changes before the CUB
elections are held.
The constitution was supposed
to be revised during the past two
CUB
administrations, said
McTernan, but the revisions were
put off until it was too late, and
new elections
·
had come around
again.
McTernan added that some
parts of the constitution were
outmoded. "A lot of times we did
things without referring to the
constitution and then
.
we looked
back and found we
.
weren't in
accordance." However, he would
not detail any specific instances
·
when
this
had occurred.
"What we're really doing is
streamlining the constitution,
and taking out the parts which
don't work any

Dowling:'

Unintended but real
This
week's lead story in the CIRCLE concerns
discrimination, a word many of us would say
is
loosely used,
·
too
frequenUy or not enough
.
.
·
Discrimination is perhaps the most dehumanizing thing a
person can endure. ~ot only is it dehumanizing but it
is
restricting, it stunts the growth of a human being,
ii
curtails
their freedom.
·
Marist
is
indeed short of fair representation by members
.
of
minorities. How many faculty members are black? How many
·
administrators are women, and how many faculty and
staff
members are non-catholic? Although this is probably the area
where the most barriers are being broken?
.
.
We realize that this is probably "unintentional", but.what we
are opposed to is that there
.
is no active recruitment
·
of these
minorities. Excuses aside, we feel
·
it
is

.
~nd to
our own black community we are spreading a shadow in
this
area. We should be fighting for the poor, the aged
,
·
those
discriminated against because of sex and those who are objects
of religious· persecution.
.
The editors support all anti-discrimination laws
.
and en-
courage the enforcement of.them
.
For

CUB moves elections
Ainato
against
RC changes
The College Union Board has
rescheduled its elections for the
end of March, so that members
can vote on revisions in the CUB
constitution. The elections are
usually held during the last week
in February.
.
According to Thomas
.
Mc-
Ternan, treasurer, the thirteen
membe
.
rs of the CUB were
scheduled
to
·
meet yesterday, to
vote on constitutional changes
involving a different procedure
for electing committee chairmen,
·
a revised financial policy, and
more clearly defined duties for
officers and chairmen.
John Dowling, president, said
that the title of vice - president
may
·
be changed to "sales-
manager" because of tr9ubles
the CUB has had in the past with
vice - presidents.
.
·
·
If
the
·
revisions
·
are approved
by the CUB, a
.
referendum will be
drawn up and students will vote
on the changes before the CUB
elections are held.
The constitution was supposed
to be revised during the past two
CUB
administrations, said
McTernan, but the revisions were
put off until it was too late, and
new elections
·
had come around
again.
McTernan added that some
parts of the constitution were
outmoded. "A lot of times we did
things without referring to the
constitution and then
.
we looked
back and found we
.
weren't in
accordance." However, he would
not detail any specific instances
·
when
this
had occurred.
"What we're really doing is
streamlining the constitution,
and taking out the parts which
don't work any

Dowling:'

revisions would be passed,

Unintended but real
This
week's lead story in the CIRCLE concerns
discrimination, a word many of us would say
is
loosely used,
·
too
frequenUy or not enough
.
.
·
Discrimination is perhaps the most dehumanizing thing a
person can endure. ~ot only is it dehumanizing but it
is
restricting, it stunts the growth of a human being,
ii
curtails
their freedom.
·
Marist
is
indeed short of fair representation by members
.
of
minorities. How many faculty members are black? How many
·
administrators are women, and how many faculty and
staff
members are non-catholic? Although this is probably the area
where the most barriers are being broken?
.
.
We realize that this is probably "unintentional", but.what we
are opposed to is that there
.
is no active recruitment
·
of these
minorities. Excuses aside, we feel

it

The Gopher Field Shoe
Here in Main0 where we bu~d Herman boots, we think that a good boot ought
to
fit
right, give you years of comfortable service and stand up to the kind of
punishment an ou!docrsrnan gives it. Thars just what
our
GC?pher Field Shoes
and Boots do
.
Gopher is an oil tanned. full-grain leather w,th
all the natural range marks intact. It's a tough, supple leather
that conforms to your
toot
immediately
.
Add soft cushioned

.
And, you can choose between
the
sure grip of the
