CAMPUS COMMUNICATIONS

Checklist: 5 Things To Do Before Moving In This Fall

Michelle Eggink, Assistant Director of Content Marketing & Communications

The start of a new academic year is just about a month away! There is plenty to look forward to once students arrive on campus during Welcome Week, including the annual Block Party on Sunday, Aug. 27 and the Activities Fair on Sept. 1. But BEFORE classes start, be sure to read below for our five suggested to-do's to kick-off your year right.

 Start a Packing List

It’s never too early to make a packing list so you can scope out what you already have and purchase or borrow what you don’t. If you’re living in the residence halls, check out what we recommend you bring to campus. Connect with your roommate(s) beforehand to coordinate which furniture items and appliances will be brought and shared. First-year students will receive their roommate assignments by Aug. 4. Have other housing questions? Visit here or email housing@marist.edu

Order Your Books & Marist Gear

Visit the online Marist College Bookstore now to get prepared for your classes and check out all of your needed course materials. You can either buy new or old books or rent them for the semester. There is also an apparel and spirit shop so you can come to campus sporting your favorite Red Fox fits.

Get Familiar with Your Marist Resources

It’s important to know what resources you have available so you can easily utilize them once you start the school year. Check out some of Marist’s resources below:

Get Your Documents & Personal Appointments In Order

Whether it’s pictures of insurance cards on your phone for Health Services or a clean resume for the Aug. 30 job and internship fair, make sure you’re organized. Be sure to think about optimal times for your personal appointments (e.g., medical, dental, haircuts, etc.) so you can mark them on your calendar and coordinate with your school schedule. With your documents and schedule in order when you arrive, your new semester will run smoothly.

Create a Hudson Valley To-Do List

There is so much to do in Poughkeepsie and the greater Hudson Valley. Research the area and create a “must-see and do” list before you get to campus. Whether you are new to Marist or just want to do a deeper dive into the area, you can check out Dutchess County Tourism and Travel Hudson Valley for off-campus fun.
