Assembly within the Poughkeepsie FIAT plant was done by hand in the same decade that Henry Ford used an assembly line to turn out a larger number of Fords at a cheaper unit price. Only upscale models like those hand produced by Duesenburg and Lancia managed to remain in operation past the great depression.
