Item

Description

Brothers from St. Ann's Academy, NYC, who worked on the Esopus renovations summer 1952

During the school year, student brothers at Marian College spent one or two weeks on a rotating basis to assist Brother Francis Xavier with the renovations to the English Village section. The architect was John Alan Ahlers, a former Marist Brother who became an architect and did significant design work for Catholic schools and churches in Baltimore, MD. During the summers, two professional masons were supplemented by Brother volunteers who had been teaching during the academic year. Some of those from St. Ann's Academy were:

top row: Richard Foy (Br Linus Richard), Peter Ginnity (Bro Brendan Regis)
middle : William Lee (Br William), Raymond Ward, and Bro Sixtus Victor Luizzo.
bottom right: Raymond Weiss (Br Gerard Matthew)

All pictured taught at St. Ann's. Ray Ward taught third grade, the others in the high school division.
