This photo was taken about 1963 from an upper floor of the Leo Dormitory. The kitchen building and Washington boathouse near the California and Cornell boathouses is gone. The California boathouse has white siding, and the Cornell boathouse is just above it (to the right in this photo). The Marist boathouse is on what was originally a cove filled in by debris from leveling the Dutton yard, so was not available to the City of Poughkeepsie for construction of additional boathouses.

For many years, the custom was for students to paint the large letter M on the rock across the Hudson (not where the letter W is painted ... further north).
