Esopus Greenhouse in 1911
Here's something none of us ever saw. This is the central dome (40 feet high) for Colonel Payne's greenhouse. When the Brothers purchased the property in 1942, the dome and two lower greenhouses toward route 9W were gone. Brother Feliciani made do with the two lower greenhouses adjacent to the dome on the river side. A large garden was across the main road. Many of us remember weeding and tending the flowers and vegetables in that garden. -

Woodcliff Pleasure Park
Some of us may remember the vacant pool, large enough to handle 4,000 swimmers in a session. The roller coaster had the steepest descent in the USA. Refreshments could be purchased in the restaurant located in the John F Winslow main house. John and Harriet Winslow owned the property from 1865 until Harriet's death about 1929. Many people arrived at the park via the Hudson River Dayliner. Persons arriving by auto were parked across the street, in what became the parking lot for Western Publishing. -
