Marist All - Well dressed Brother - Rich Foy 1948-49
Photo taken winter of 1948-1949. The topcoat and suit were provided by Mr. Buddy Malfetano, a tailor on Third Avenue in New York. Fedoras, dress shirt, underwear, socks and shoes were supplied by the Brothers' commissary, supervised by Brother Frederick Charles, who also supervised making cassocks for the province. The hat was de rigueur. Brothers in New York City were alerted that the Cardinal wanted all clergy to wear fedoras whenever on the street. On one occasionin 1951 the Brothers all traveled to Cardinal Hayes High School to give blood — it was the Korean war, and the powers that be decided that so many able young men should do something to help the war effort. His Eminence Cardinal Spellman came to the school and spoke with (not to) the donors. I had a donut and cup of coffer with him; David kissed his ring. Bro Eugene Trzecieski decided not to take the subway and started to walk back to Saint Ann's. The Cardinal had his chauffeur stop the limo, invited Sig to ride with him, and brought him back to St. Ann's. It is not clear whether Bro Trzecieski was wearing his hat … -

Marist All - Payne Chapel 1960
After the chapel was installed in the northern section of the Esopus campus and eventually the Juniorate was moved to Cold Spring, the chapel in the Great Hall of the Payne Mansion was used by those in the Novitiate and later those in the Scholasticate. The original prie-dieus were replaced by conventional benches and new lighting was installed. -
Marist All - Payne Chapel 1944
The Great Hall of the Payne Mansion was converted into a chapel by the Brothers when they came in 1942. During 1942-1943, the windows facing the Hudson River were plain glass, but stained glass windows were installed wither in summer of 1943 or summer of 1944. The space behind the collonade at the north end was taken up by the organ. The space behind the colonade at the south end was occupied by the altar. The marble fireplace at the south end had been removed and stored in an upstairs room. The two doors leading to the southeast sun room were covered by drapes behind some statues. The kneelers were in use while the chapel was used by the Brothers and Juniors until about 1955 when the new chapel in the northern buildings was placed in service. The kneelers were replaced by conventional seating. -
