and
Alive
The spirit of the student body was seen on opening day when we students
returned to campus. The freshmen arrived with some apprehension and much
excitement-eager to begin their college careers
.
New friends, new experiences
and new possibilities awaited them. The returning students also arrived on
campus alive with spirit
.
Old friendships were re-kindled and strengthened.
We, as students, awaited the possibilities of the future.
Now as we close the doors on another year, we are still alive with spirit and
change. The seniors look with excitement to the future, to unlock the doors to
their dreams and the rest of the student body looks forward to the summer and
what awaits them there.
All through our Marist experiences, we are Red Hot and Alive with change
and spirit. With these changes comes growth and with growth comes change
within ourselves
.
Because of these changes, Marist will always be Red Hot and
Alive.

From day one of the Marist experience a student quickly
learned that there was much more to college than
just
attending
classes. Friends
and
relationships, fun and ac-
tivities, stress and hard work all played
an important
part
of the life of a student. The key to success was
finding a
perfect balance in our lives and making
the
most
of
what
college had to offer. For some,
this
was easier than for
others but as many soon realized, none too quickly, these
were the best
and
most
exciting
years of their lives. And
few
would
change
them for
the
world.

Tests
The Dreaded Test
Watch the pretty coin of gold. Now close your eyes as you were told:
envision this -
It
is early Saturday morning, the grass outside of Champagnat hall is
touched with the dew from the evening before
.
The air around the campus
has the usual briskness that is particular to the fall, as well as the middle of
the first semester at Marist
.
There's only one question. Why- in the name of all that is good and sacred-
are you up this early on a Saturday morning? The answer is as plain as the
face behind your nose, you have a test to get to. These "tests" have plagued
seniors since the onset of schooling and freshmen have this to look forward to
for the next four years. They have no reason to worry-much. We all take and
despise them and their like
.
Students wince when the dirty-word is spoken. Just say it, and you'll look
like you ate a lemon
.
This is the age of the test. The "TEST" is a creature, a
force, that breeds havoc unto the Marist campus; a small but humble college
that, time and time again, has been brought to the edge of cataclysm by the
dreaded "TEST."

And then there are the mountains, the ones who stand strong and tall

world as it is, with a horizon in every direction, and the view is breathtaking.
Through our life, we have felt the wind, heard the summer rain, and
walked along the beach, but it is through college that we have climbed the
mountains and seen what friendships are all about.

On The Go
Cars, va
·
ns, bicycles, skateboards, and rollerblades- all forms of transportation
here at Marist. Each
of
them have their advantages
and
disadvantages.
Having a car was definitely a luxury many students were able to enjoy however,
parking was often a problem. For drivers, Champagnat lot was the
"dream"
parking place on campus. Parking permits for Champagnat were in high demand
because of the centrality of the lot. For those who were not as fortunate to be
assigned parking there
,
there were always the Riverview and McCann lots. But no
matter where you parked, the trek to classes was often long and not to mention
very cold, especially in the winter.
For the students who relied on the Canterbury vans to get to campus, "door to
door" service was very convenient. However the vans only held twelve people at a
time and for those who had to wait for their ride home, it didn't
seem
like much of
a luxury.
Campus dwellers often found bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades to be a
efficient way to get to and from classes
.
All and all
,
these were probably the best
forms of transportation because students could get to where they were going
without parking miles away from their destination
.
But when all else failed and you needed to get to where you had to go, walking
was the best bet- no flats, no
traffic,
no problems.

To Succeed In College You Must Learn
To Balance The Homesick Days Of
Freshman Year With The Worrisome
Days Of Senior Year. You Must Try To
Loosen Your Tight Grip On Your
Hometown In Order To Have A Better
Grasp Of The Days Ahead. To Be
Happy You Must Embrace The
Strangers Of Freshman Year So They
Will Aspire To Be Your Life-Long
Friends Of Senior Year
.
After Four
Years Of Juggling Classes, Surviving
Finals, And Strengthening Friendships,
You Find Yourself Succeeding-Receiving
Your Degree

This Success

Over The Years We Have Seen Marist
College Grow. Not Only Physically, But Also
In Membership Of Our Clubs And
Organizations On Campus. With A Variety Of
Activities To Be Involved In, Our Clubs
Offered Something For All Students.
Every Club And Organization Represented
Something For Each Student Who Was A
Member ...
Unity, From Working Together As A Team
For A Purpose That Was Important.
Support, Gained From Other Members
Who Shared The Same Goals.
Learning And Experience, Useful For
Our Futures.
Fun, Allows Us To Forget The Pressures Of
Classes And Work.
Friendships, Formed By Sharing Common
Interests With Those Who Were Once
Strangers.
And Spirit, To Take Part In What Marist
Has To Offer.

Hockey games, basketball games, dances,
TG IFs, parties, the Senior Formal ... From the
first day of college to graduation day, there is
always some type of activity or event going on
to keep Marist students busy. What a great way
to socialize, meet new people, and develop
friendships that could last a lifetime. Some of
the experiences of college life would not happen
if there was not some type of activity or event
happening either on or off campus. Being a part
of the college experience is what makes the four
years at Marist so special. When students leave
Marist College, the activities and events that
they have encountered will always be in their
memories.

Editor's Note
Jean Gallo
&
Barbara Sanchez
Upon taking the task of REYNARD editors, we knew the job would not be easy, but we were willing to take on
the challenge in order for the REYNARD tradition to stay alive. We feel that there were many unexpected
obstacles to overcome yet we strived to overcome them in order to produce a book that was alive with spirit. Many
others contributed their energies to the completion of the 1993 REYNARD.
We would like to thank many special people who were willing to lend a helping hand and offer their support and
encouragement continuously. Therefore, we would like to sincerely thank Bob Lynch, Steve Sansola, Linda
Muhfeld, Dan Sullivan, College Activities Workers, the College Relations Office, the Athletic Office, T
.
D. Brown,
Kevin Byrne and the dedicated members of the 1993 REYNARD staff. We would also like to thank our faculty ad-
visor, Mary McComb, for her time, patience and advice.
Overall we hope that this years edition of the REYNARD portrays the Marist spirit.
In
each page of this book
we tried to capture all the precious moments that have shaped our lives, as well as the people that have touched
them. Remember as our lives go on our memories remain with us.
Good luck and Congratulations to the class of 1993, may all
your
dreams become reality, for you hold the key to
the future.
