MARIST COLLEGE

DEDICATION
Brother Linus R. Foy
President
Marist College
Poughkeepsie, New York
Dear Brother,
MARIST COLLEGE
POUGHKEEPSIE, N. Y.
February 28, 1964
Swiftly the time approaches when these past years of college life shall
be consigned to a storehouse of precious memories residing in each of us.
Perhaps in some other clime, near or far, we shall look back in future years
and say:
"This was good." Can we also fail to reflect upon the dynamic growth
which has assailed our eyesight and left its lasting imprint upon our minds?
We have seen a small cluster of buildings evolve into a campus of imposing
skyscrapers.
In these buildings, by means of a combination of color, form,
and imaginative design, we are confronted with that theme of progress which
envelopes the entire campus life.
These we have seen.
Other things we must remember as having been felt.
For how can one guage that progress which has taken place in the mind?
Is it
reflected in a new spirit, an attitude, or a way of life which was uncommon
to us before? All this and so much more.
Perhaps the only way in which to
describe it most fully is to say that we are now, that which we were not. We
regard this as principally due to those influences, spiritual and intellectual,
which have been a part of our lives these past four years.
You are also one of those influences Brother.
To you, a leader and
impetus behind this continuing growth, we owe so much and yet can give so
little. This year we wish our yearbook to be dedicated to you.
While we
realize that your gift to us far outweighs any which we may bestow upon you,
we ask that you accept this token of our gratitude.
President
Class of 1964

PREFACE
Yesterday is not today. Nor will it come again at some future
time. It has existed and will continue to exist in each one of us who
passes from the college scene. It is more than a mere memory; it
was for many of us a way of life, a way of feeling, thinking and
reacting to the enormities of the commonplace realities which sur-
round us. Shaping, molding, testing, it placed us against challenges
hitherto unknown, and though sometimes we have failed, we have
prevailed. We now relegate those past struggles and dreams to frail
and inadequate memories, for we can no longer experiences that
which we once had here. Our goals are no longer the same; nor do
we think as we did when we first came here. These goals have been
refined and defined through a new scope on reality which has been
individually actualized by the Marist atmosphere.
This college which has done so much to equip us for the future
which lies before us, now swiftly becomes a stranger to us. About
us we see strange buildings which, at first, existed only in the minds
of a few inspired individuals. About us we see strange people in-
volved in the genesis of a new inspiration. We are not anxious to
leave this subtle strangeness, but something cries out to us,
11
Make
room, make room!" And so we relinquish our experiences to history
... a diary which we will look back upon proudly and which will
retain a special significance in our reflections.

Q
In a school such as Marist, with its swift and continuing
growth, the Evening Division men look forward with enthu-
siasm and a spirit of willing cooperation to their role as full-
fledged partners in this worthwhile struggle to fashion an
institution which can perform the ''academic miracle" of pre-
serving the intimacy, concern for individuals, and flexibility
which have characterized Marist up to the present time; while
simultaneously broadening and enhancing the school's over-
all program, physical plant, faculty, and educational and cul-
tural services to the community.

Q
In a school such as Marist, with its swift and continuing
growth, the Evening Division men look forward with enthu-
siasm and a spirit of willing cooperation to their role as full-
fledged partners in this worthwhile struggle to fashion an
institution which can perform the ''academic miracle" of pre-
serving the intimacy, concern for individuals, and flexibility
which have characterized Marist up to the present time; while
simultaneously broadening and enhancing the school's over-
all program, physical plant, faculty, and educational and cul-
tural services to the community.

and earn some honors!"
