Q)
I
,;I}
If
life was as simple as it sounds,
No doubt as to what I'd be.
But thanks to time and changes
There's more of me than you see.
Of thinkers thoughts and lovers loves
The roads of my life are paved.
With dreamers dreams and God's only time
My life rolls on like a wave.
Until the time that
all
things stop
I'll keep on changing
till
I'm near the top.
And when
my
wave crashes the shore
Life ever changing will have me no more.

Here are some of the pieces
That help to make one whole.

Though endless lectures,
And books had stole my time.
They've added to my life
And made the water taste like wine.

Now to the life He ~reated
I'll add my little part,
With thanks to those wise men
Who taught me that living was an art.

.S dedication
22
We're not put on this earth to see through one another
,
to see one another through. No religion or variant philosc
could possibly say more, and no profession could more
duously adhere to its precepts than those of a teacher. For
reason, the class of
'
73 and the staff of 1973 Reynard wis
:
dedicate their yearbook to those men whom they conside
be most closely allied to the cause of education; Drs.
J
Schroeder and Melvin Michelson
.

Though inevitably separated by years as well as personal
philosophies, these men have brought to Marist that personal
commitment to change and growth which has marked Marist
since its inception 25 years ago.
Gratitude is something of which none of us can give too
much. For the smiles, the thanks we give, our little gestures of
appreciation, the whole world can derive its philosophy of
life.

Instead of lying back and dreaming they are something in
the world of real men. The evening division characterizes
those people who ·tend most greatly to make the world what
it really is. In addition to the time these arduous individuals
spend at Donnelly their lives revolve sewing the needs of
both family amd community, a task seldom recognized by
its outward appearances and all too often not appreciated
by those they serve.

Simon say's
. . . .
Change
is
realized in either of two ways, through
evolution or revolution. However, lacking the vio-
lence usually held accountable to rapid change, and
far surpassing the gradual effectiveness of evolu-
tion, there is a new force finally come of age in a
world which has been forced to constantly change
.
That force is our Teacher Education Program
.
Rather than
sitting
back and simply absorbing
change, certain extraordinarily motivated students
have picked up the challenge and chose to base
their lives around its call. Preparing for their future
as well as ours, those students enrolled in the pro-
gram to concern themselves in three basic areas.
First to prepare themselves academically; entrance
into the program is qualitative, not quantitative.
Second the student must engage himself in some
area of co-curricular social services, such as tutor-
ing or a rehabilitative program. Thirdly, the stu-
dent must spend at least one full semester in an ac-
tual teaching situation, which constitutes his
professional preparation. After these steps and en-
suing certification the teacher education graduate
will, depending upon his individual talents, become
the new force required by the new world of
tommorow.

This letter is one of the most difficult pieces that I have ever had to write. The custom has been, that the
editor gives a brief and humorous account of the hours he and his staff have spent together creating the
yearbook.
Well, the story that I can tell is so brief, that it isn't even worth telling. People did come to help me
,
but they
only came when they felt like it or when they had the extra-time. The thing that bothers me most about this is
that my own personal needs had to be set aside.
If
I didn't do the work, nobody would.
My reason for writing this letter as such is to give you, the reader, a small reason for the book not being as
good as it should. But there is only so much that an individual can do on his own, or with the help of one or two
people before things begin to fall apart. A staff of about ten or twelve people is definitely needed to make things
work.
There is one thing that I would like to do. And that is to thank those people who did help as much as they
could. I am not going to give any names, because I feel that they themselves should honestly know whether they
have worked to the fullest of their capabilities.
To everytme at Marist, I hope that in the future the editors of the Reynard will not have to try and produce
the book alone. But rather, that there will be a more earnest attempt made by the student at creating a student
yearbook, instead of the individual task it has become.
