TRANSITION
We may think of transition as a
process occurring around us
. . .
and so
it is.
Transition
:
a changing
from one form to another
.
It is
gradual yet it is dynamic
.
.
.
it
is
present yet it can not be felt or
seen
...
it is a period of time yet it
is an eternal process
.
Transition
.
.
.
it is
all around us: in our universe,
in our world, in our country, state
and city
.
It is right within the Marist
Community. Marist College has
always been a changing, grow-
ing and developing school, as
it
will continue to be
.
But transition,
especially here at Marist, is much
deeper and more personal than
simply what is surrounding us. It is
within each of us
.
It's the very
process of transition and chang-
ing that brings us to "becoming."
And just as we are always going
through the process of transition,
we are always going through the
process of "becoming
.
"
Transi-
tion
.
.
.
that which
"becomes"
us.

It is the pleasure and honor of
the Class of 1981 to dedicate this
yearbook to Mr
.
Gerald E. Kelly
.
Since coming to Marist in 1972,
Mr
.
Kelly has held a number of po-
sitions including Assistant Dean of
Students and Director of Financial
Aid
.
We would like to express our
recognition of his dedication and
devotion to the Marist Communi-
ty
.
To many. "Gerry" was a friend
as well as an administrator. Our
appreciation of his concern for
each of us is extended beyond
these few words
.

The Campus And Surroundings
50

We here at Marist are truly a
community
.
We are a community
within our campus. We are famil-
iar with its grounds, buildings and
structures
.
Our campus brings to
us special meanings, stories and
ties
.
But the Marist community is
not confined to the campus here
.
We are a part of all that sur-
rounds us-in the town
,
the city
and the county. The next few
pages are dedicated to our
campus and the surrounding
community.

What is it that makes up Marist?
Yes
,
it is the people here but it is
also the "every day" aspects of
college life that complete the
Marist community. These things
have become such a part of us
and the way we have lived from
day to day that we may take
them for granted. It is now in look-
ing back that these daily events
will be missed. They have added
to our growth in the past four
years
.
We can but only glimpse
into some of these aspects and
hope to capture their meaning to
us.

The relationship of the transition be-
tween Marist and each one of us during
the years we have spent here is one of
interdependence
;
a bond that has no
distinct separation. Marist has gone
through many valuable changes be-
cause of what we have brought to it.
What is more significant, though, is what
Marist - its students, faculty
,
administra-
tion, staff and environment - has given to
us. The many valuable experiences that
have been a part of our growth cannot
be over emphasized
.
We now extend our
thanks to Marist
. .
.

210
Thank You . ...
. . .
for all the good and bad times
that you have made me live
through
.
Though the bad were
sometimes difficult, they allowed
me to appreciate the good so
very much more
.

Thank You . . . .

for all the accomplishments
and discouragements that you
have presented to
·
me.
They
have taught me not only to cope
with the frustration but also to re-
joice in the satisfactions.
213

214
Thank You . . .
.
. .
for all the laughter and tears
that you have forced me to bring
forth. Both have helped me to re-
alize the happiness and sorrow
contained in human feeling.

215

Thank You . . . .
I

.
..
for all of the knowledge you
have exposed me to. Although I
have not always learned to my
fullest potential, I have gained
much insight and have freed
much of my ignorance.
217

218
Thank You . . . .
. .
.
for all the different people
which you have acquainted me
with
.
If some have hurt me in any
way, they have only helped me
to see what true friends actually
are.

Thank You ....
220

.
. .
for all of the growing and
the changing you have watched
me go through
.
Although some of
it was painful, it permitted me to
gain priceless experience and
knowledge about myself.
221

222
Thank You ....
.
. .
for all of the numerous memo-
ries which you have created for
me
.
Though they cannot be re-
created
,
their mere thought will
always spring them back to life
inside of me.

How quickly the days do go
How much of our time is spent
It is only now that we're leaving
That we realize all you have meant
