CHANGE: (chanj) to cause to be different; alter. To exchange for or
replace by another. To lay aside, abandon or leave for another.
The new library ... Academic internships ... Marist College Food
Service . . . McCann Recreation Center . . . Core Curriculum ...
Fashion Design Center ...
We watched workmen lay the foundation for the new
library; now it serves a daily purpose in our academic
routine. When we felt the need for a broad range of life
experiences, work-study internships were developed.
When we were dissatisfied with Saga's meal plans, we
initiated our own food service. We pictured the construc-
tion of a new gymnasium on the empty south field; this
old graveyard became the site of the McCann Recreation
Center. We witnessed the incorporation of courses which
gave freshmen a wider base of knowledge. When we
stared at our reflections in the dark windows of th
e
old
Spellman library, we never realized it would house a
fashion design center. Th
e
se, and other changes have
been initiated by the voices of concerned students. They
are individuals who interact and provide a force which
necessitates the perpetual movement of Mari st. The ref ore,
it is to all the students who pass through Marist College,
that we, the class of 1978, dedicate this yearbook.

In coming here we bring with us a
truly unique part of ourselves. And
though we may not realize it, we
leave with the impressions,
expectations and values of those
who have shared these times with
us. We are part of Marist; Marist is a
part of us.
No matter how small our voices may
be, we truly are. And that which we
are, cannot help but touch another

FANS!

They have opened our minds
And forced us to question our being
When we have shaken our heads in confusion
They have tried to ease our doubts
They have molded thought into practice
While reaching for the lesson of truth
Yet
When a smile cracks their masks
We see them as us

Both our faces
captured in a crowd
of blank stares.
I caught your eye
you grinned
The game began
I never told you my name
Never asked for yours
Still
I knew by
Your classroom nod
Your cafeteria smile
Your elevator "hi"
You remembered me
But
We never reached out
Never showed who we were
There were rules ...
I see your face again
Its our final hello
You are no stranger
hiding behind a
plaster mask
We did share ourselves
If only in the moments
of our game.

October 27, 1977
Dear Shirley,
Hi, How are you?
I'm in English Literature class now and
decid~d that writing
to you was better than listening to that.
70

Nothing is really new with me. Mid-terms
are next week and as usual I have tons of
studying to do.
71

Would you believe I've yet to buy the book for my Balch class. I
know I'll have to pull a few "all nighters" to get through that
week.
72

r
Last night at
4
A.M. we had a fire drill. It was great. Of course, I
love walking down 8 flights of stairs and standing in my pajamas
for a half hour because someone wanted the fire bell as a room
decoration.
73

This weekend is our Halloween party. I think I'll go as a T.V. set.
Maybe I'll meet a good looking T.V. repairman. A few people
are going as the Wizard of Oz crew ... y'know "and Toto, too".
74

After this, its off to lunch. I'm in the mood for pizza but I know
they'll have those rubber hockey pucks again. The food here
isn't much, but it's enough to make you gain weight.
75

76
I'd better run over to the McCann center soon and leave a few
pounds there.
As usual its pouring rain here. How I wish it was the first week
of school again.

Not only did it seem like it never rained but
I
didn't have a thing
to do. I could just hang out outside against a tree and not have
anything to worry about ... That's life.
77

Too bad you didn't
make it up here last
weekend. You could
have joined our floor
dinner.
78

1
We finished "merry-making" in
no time and left the place
feeling no pain. A half-keg does
wonders y'know. I found my
way to the Derby and somehow
landed in Andros.
79

Once home, we sang a few choruses
of "Follow the yellow Brick Road" in
front of Champagnat. It seems so long
ago ... today's only Thursday.
80

Well, I'd better stop writing since my teacher keeps giving me
strange looks ... no one usually writes like this in his class. Good
luck with your tests.
Love,
Laverne

In Memory of Kathy Sullivan
"Thy
Will Be Done"
"I'll
lend
you for
a little time
a
child of
mine", He said
For
you
to love while
she
lives and mourn
for when she's dead
It may be
six or seven years
or twenty two or
three,
But will
you
till I
call
her back, take
care
of
her for me.
She'll
bring her
charms
to
gladen you
and should
her
stay
be brief
You'll
have her lovely memories as solace
for
your grief
I
cannot promise she
will
stay
since
all
on
earth
return,
But
there
are
lessons taught down there I want
this
child
to learn
I've looked
the wide
world
over
in search
for teachers
true
And
from the throngs that
crowd
lifes
lanes I have
selected you
Now will you give
her
all
your love
not think the labor vein
Nor
hate me
when
I
come
to
call
to
take her back
again?
I
fancied
that I heard them say,
"Dear
Lord,
thy
will be
done!"
All the
joy
thy child shall bring
the
risk
of grief will
run,
We'll shelter
her
with tenderness.
we'll
love her
while
we may
And for the
happiness
we've
known,
forever grateful stay
But should the angels call for
her
much
sooner
than
we've
planned
We'll brave the bitter grief
that
comes, and
try to understand
...

In Memory of Mark E. Toce
It's a very strange feeling trying to write something appro-
priate in memory of our friend. There were so many
·
positive aspects about Mark that it seems impossible to
sum them up in this short space. Those of us who were
fortunate enough to cross paths with Mark in this lu-
dicrous world realized the speciality of this person. There's
a song that says: "If I leave here tommorrow, Will you still
remember me;" We will remember Mark and pray for him;
but most of all think of him everyday, as he will be with
us the rest of our lives.
''The Song Remains the Same For us all."
God bless you, Mark.

To the People of Marist College,
As the year comes to a close and the completion of the
REYNARD is with us now, we would like to go back to the
beginning of the year and review some things.
As everyone knows, there were some questions as to whether
or not there would be a yearbook this year. The reason for this
was the fact that the yearbook was in debt. This debt has been
carried for over ten years, each year getting a little bit worse.
No one knew where to go. We were not sure if the students
wanted a book or not. All we knew was that it was not all of
our fault that were in debt so much, that we were only
partially to blame, so we decided to set up meetings with the
Administration to try to figure something out. The idea of
having a campaign to sell books is what we decided upon. The
deal was to sell 450 books in one week. If we reached this
goal, there would be a book but it would be on a zero base
budget. All we needed at this point was the help of the
students. This was the chance for Marist College to come
together and decide whether or not the REYNARD was to be
printed this year. It was their decision to make.
On behalf of the REYNARD staff, we would like to thank the
students of Marist College for all the support that they gave us
.
If it was not for them, there would not be a yearbook this year.
We were in trouble, we needed everyone's help, and we got it.
This proves to us that Marist College cares about what
happens. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank
the Administration for giving us the chance to show them that
the students here DO care and that they can work together
.
Suzanne and I would like to extend our thanks to the
yearbook staff. Everyone did a lot of running around to try to
have this book become the best and they did it. A lot of effort
was put in and a lot of nights spent sitting in a cold office.
When we were in trouble or when Suzanne or I could not
make a meeting, the staff was always there to pull us through
and we deeply appreciated it.
Once again, we would like to thank all the people who helped
us to form another great issue of the REYNARD.
From the REYNARD staff, Suzanne and myself, we would like
to wish the Class of 1978 the best of luck in the future as you
continue to strive for your goals.
Jean Karole
Suzanne Gallucci
Sincerely,
