Our Lady Seat of Wisom Chapel
MaristLand
View of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel from the southeast. Brother Paul Ambrose Fontaine hoped to have the
chapel finished in time for the Marian Year (1954). It was in unofficial use by the end of 1953.
Brother Nilus had a sense of history. The chapel bell was earlier located on the front porch of the Novitiate building.
Lter it was moved near the front entrance of Greystone, until it found its permanent home in the chapel tower.
When Brother Nilus was a Novice (1926) one of his duties was to sound this bell once per minute as the funeral
cortege walked from the Provincial house (which was across the water works road on the site currently occupied by
the Lower Thomas Communications Center) to the cemetery during the burial of any Marist Brother.

teaching in Marist schools and returned for two summers to aid in the construction. this pattern continued for the
next decade, for the Student Brothers Study Hall & Dining Room, the Student Brothers Dormitory, Adrian Building,
and Donnelly Hall.
