Brother John Lawrence (1908 - 1977)
Family name: O'Shea
Born in New York City on February 10, 1908, John met the brothers while a student at St. Ann's Academy. He later earned his BA and MA degrees at Fordham University.
He served as community director at Central Catholic High School, Lawrence, Massachusetts, Mount Saint Michael Academy, Bronx, New York, and Saint Ann's Academy in Manhattan. In 1959 he was named provincial of the newly established Poughkeepsie Province.
In 1971 John was ordained a Marist priest; he returned to Central Catholic High School where he served as chaplain. He died after a long battle with cancer and is buried in the brothers' cemetery in Esopus, New York.
