Obituary-Brother Roy Mooney
Brother Roy W. Mooney, F.M.S., who was a guidance counselor in two high schools in the archdiocese and a former provincial of the Marist Brothers, died April 3, 2002. He was 68
He was provincial of the Poughkeepsie Province of the Marist Brothers from 1975 to 1981.
As a guidance counselor, he served at Mount lSt. Michael Academy in the Bronx, 1988 to 1991, and St. Agnes High School in Manhattan 1981 to 1988. He taught at Mount St. Michael 1956 to 1962, and at the Marist Brothers' Juniorate in Cold Spring 1962 to 1967.
He was also director of the Marist Spirituality Center in Rome, 1992 to 1999.
Born in the Bronx on December 10, 1933, he entered the Marist novitiate in 1951 and professed first vows in 1953 and final vows in 1958. A graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, he received master's degrees from Fairfield University in Connecticut and St. John's University in Queens.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Connelly of Scarsdale, and a brother, William, of Farmington Hills, Mich.
A Funeral Mass was offered April 6 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, with burial in the Marist Brothers Cemetery in Esopus.

Roy was a student in my senior history class at St Ann's Academy 1950-1951, my first year of teaching. Even then he conveyed a sense of peace, even-handedness and concern for others which stayed with him during his entire life...( by Richard Foy)
