Interviewee: Fran Dunwell
Summary: In part 1, Fran Dunwell recalls her childhood in Poughkeepsie, New York, spending time at her Grandparent’s cabin on the Potomac River in Virginia, and going to summer camp in New Hampshire. She shares formative experiences, including spending her senior year of high school in Germany, going to Kirkland College in Clinton, NY and graduate school at Yale Forestry School. She discusses her early jobs as the Director of the Center for the Hudson River Valley, Associate Director at Scenic Hudson, and the Fisheries Coordinator at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
In part 2, Establishing the Hudson River Estuary Program (1:08:19) Fran Dunwell discusses her 40+-year career in the Hudson Valley, spanning from her role at the Center for the Hudson River Valley to the establishment and development of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program. Fran’s recollections were part of a group conversation. Cara Lee, Betsy Blair and Nancy Beard also share recollections and information about the Hudson River Estuary Program.
