Valetor did not use the very toxic perclorethylene (Perc) as its dry cleaning solvent. This was coming into use at the time because it posed no fire risk. Instead, the Company used what is technically called Stoddard Solvent, a high flash point petroleum distillate sold under various trade names; e.g. Savasol of the Mobil Company. This made the solvent far less hazardous than benzene, and the dry cleaning room was a fire protected area equipped with ignition proof lights, motors and switches.
