"The Germans sent many airplanes down to Arabia in an attempt to frighten Lawrence's army. But instead of their having that effect they simply caused the Arabs to insist on Lawrence getting airplanes for them. One day the King of the Hedjaz sent Lawrence a message which read — ‘Oh, faithful one, thy country hast airplanes as the locusts. Please send us a dozen.’ One day the Arabs shot down a German plane with their rifles, and when it landed in the desert they ran out and clipped off its wings so that it wouldn't fly away!”
