Fred Miller
Columbia's Freshman Crew Coach 1922-1923
Columbia's Crew Coach 1924-1925
Fred Miller graduated from Columbia in 1913 and rowed on the varsity crew in 1909, 1910, 1912, and 1913. He continued to be involved in Columbia's rowing program after graduation as a member of the rowing committee.
He served as freshman/assistant coach at Columbia under James "Jim" Rice until Rice left Columbia in 1923. Miller became head coach in late 1923 and he was reappointed as head coach in the fall of 1924. He resigned the position in May 1925. This parting was said to be of "mutual consent," but Columbia's crews had not performed as well as hoped under Miller and Columbia felt it was time for a change. William "Bill" Haines stepped in and prepared the crews for the Poughkeepsie Regatta that year.
