Oakes - Shafer Place
Located on Oakes Road in Highland along the River, just south of the Mid-Hudson Bridge
The three story house was built in Second Empire style, popular from the 1860s to early 20th century in the United States. The exact date of the house's construction is unknown. Home to Ira Shafer, a prominent New York City attorney and politician, and his family. Ira Shafer died November 30, 1896 and the family then rented the house out.
The house still stands as an unoccupied private residence and is in the process of being renovated.
