1903

Despite initial concerns that Georgetown would not have the funds to compete, they sent a freshman and a varsity crew to Poughkeepsie.  This would not be the last time that Georgetown’s crew experienced financial issues.

The weather leading up to this year’s races made it difficult for the crews to practice. Pennsylvania, the first to arrive, dealt with rough waters that filled their shells and prevented practice. Consistent rain and wind continued to plague the crews and made for unsettled conditions on the Hudson in the weeks leading up to race day. Thankfully, the weather cleared, and the races went forward without issue.

This was another banner year for Cornell with victories in all three races and a course record set in the freshman 8.  Syracuse saw its first finish in the top three, under the direction of their new coach, James “Jim” Ten Eyck.
